Philosophy & Reflections

Old texts. Everyday questions.

Some questions follow me off the mat.

What does compassion ask of us when we’re angry? How do we stay present when the world feels unbearable? What does it mean to practice yoga while making dinner, earning a living, or having a difficult conversation?

This is where I write about those questions—and the teachings I turn to as I explore them.

Reading, practicing, wondering

My interests draw me toward the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and the many ways people have understood and practiced yoga. These texts belong to rich traditions with different perspectives. I’m learning to pay attention to those differences, alongside the questions they raise in my own life.

Ram Dass’s teachings are another companion. His invitation to be here now sounds simple. Living it gives me plenty to practice.

I write as a student and practitioner. Sometimes an idea becomes clearer through experience. Sometimes experience leaves me with a better question.

What happens beyond the mat

Ahimsa—often translated as non-harming—invites me to look at how I speak, act, and respond. Compassion and service ask me to consider whose needs I notice, and what I’m willing to do.

I don’t always meet those invitations gracefully.

There are days when practice helps me pause before reacting. There are days when I understand what I should have done about ten minutes after doing something else. Both give me something to reflect on.

Wild & Rooted

These writings bring together devotion, breath, community, grief, and the ordinary work of paying attention.

You’ll find personal reflections alongside explorations of yoga philosophy. I’ll make clear when I’m sharing my experience and when I’m drawing from a teaching or text.

Read slowly. Follow what interests you. Bring your own questions.

Keep the conversation going

Has a teaching stayed with you? Is there a question you keep returning to, or something you’d like to explore together?

I’d love to hear it.
